New Day Zone, New Companion, New P-day

Hello Family and Friends!

HAPPY SATURDAY (yup, I am now writing on Saturdays- at least for this transfer!).  It's been a really good 4 days since I last wrote.  Here's my rundown on the past couple days!

Tuesday 5/24 - After emailing we went to our transfer conference.  And the news (hence the title of this email!) is that my new companion is Elder Wilde (who was actually my very FIRST companion when I first got on the mission!), and that I work in 2 separate zones now.  During the day I work in Data Quality Historical Records in the JSMB (yup, I got transferred back to my old zone, just not taking phone calls or chats and now I do different assignments!) and my evening zone is Access Services (the zone I worked in last transfer!), so I did not completely get transferred, just working in Access Services in the Family History Library in the evenings now rather than the whole day.

Wednesday 5/25 - We spent the day working in our day zone and I got all situated in my new desk.  We then went on to the Elijah Choir practice where we are working on music for future devotionals, as well as the Pioneer Day Program in July.  We then worked in our evening zone, where we spent the evening doing film inventory on the B2 floor, the High Density room (a restricted room on the B1 floor!), and the 2nd floor.

Thursday 5/26 - We worked in our day zone during the day.  In our evening zone that night we did a book inventory during the first hour and then the rest of the night did another film inventory, this time covering B2, B1, High Density, and 2nd Floor.

Friday 5/27 - We worked in our day zone, cleaned our entire apartment (since it needed to be cleaned!), and worked in our evening zone.  In our evening zone that night we did another film inventory in all the required locations (B2, B1, High Density, and 2nd!).

Saturday 5/28 - This morning I got up and played some sports (morning sports is the only time where we do NOT have to have our assigned companion with us - we just have to have other elders with us and no one can be in the apartment alone, but since I'm in a 4-man apartment, I'm good!).  We then did our laundry and just finished our shopping about an hour ago.  Tonight we will do our evening sports activity.

This has definitely been a good and busy past couple of days.  Love you all, Happy Memorial Day on Monday, and have a wonderful week! :) ALSO - on Saturday June 11th (2 weeks from today!) we will not be writing our regular emails since we've been asked to help out in some ways at a block party at the Family History Library, so we'll be emailing during the week that week.  I'll let you know next Saturday the exact day and time when I'll be writing (that week I'll be emailing during zone!) when we get a time arranged with our senior zone leader.

Hello Family/Friends -

It's p-day once again - and once again it came really FAST!  It's been another good week though!  Here is my rundown of the week.

Tuesday 5/10 - After doing our emails, I picked up my new suit (pictures with me in it are coming within the next 2 hours!).  We then went to a research class that night.

Wednesday 5/11 - We had our May Young Elder Mission Conference which was really good.  We talked some more about setting goals, etc.  We then spent the remainder of our day working in our zone.  We also had our Wednesday choir practice that afternoon.

Thursday 5/12 - We spent the day working in our work zone - we cleaned the film readers first thing, and then spent the remainder of the day doing our various assignments (putting books away, bringing guests books and films that they ask us to get, etc.).

Friday 5/13 - It was another busy day working in our zone.  The floor we work on is starting to get more crowded (meaning many guests are using computers and microfilms!) each day - once the summer comes around it will be even MORE crowded and more busy haha.  That morning - my companion and I sang in our zone prayer meeting (someone took a video and that will be sent hopefully today!).

Saturday 5/14 - We worked during the day and then that night, we had our evening sports activity.

Sunday 5/15 - We went to see the rehearsal and the broadcast of Music and the Spoken Word.  We then went to our branch choir practice and had our normal church meetings.  We had a dinner appointment that night - the thing was that we found out (later on!) that we were invited to the WRONG DINNER APPOINTMENT (hahahaha!).  At least we got fed though, that's the only thing that matters haha.  We then were invited by another companionship to take a tour of the Conference Center (more pictures to come today as well!).

Monday 5/16 - Yesterday morning we got up early so we could make it to the Elijah Choir rehearsal on time.  We then had our weekly mission devotional and worked in our zone as normal.  Last night we had our branch Hail and Farewell activity (I have pictures from that to send as well!).

Tuesday 5/17 - We did our laundry first thing in the morning and then went shopping (we switched with one of the companionships who were in the later shopping group since they had their monthly interviews with the mission president, so we offered to switch with that companionship!).

It's been another exciting week here in Salt Lake City!  Hope everyone has another great week! :)

Hello Family and Friends!

Happy Tuesday!  Today is also TRANSFER day - and I know that I am FOR SURE getting a new companion (since my companion goes home tonight!), but as of now (unless last minute changes happen!) I do not have to move apartments.  I also don't know when my next p-day will be (it could be as early as Thursday, or it could be Friday, Saturday, or it could stay as Tuesday!).  It will be interesting for sure.  It's been another good week and here's my week in a nutshell.

Tuesday 5/17 - We went to our last research class of this month's transfer that night.

Wednesday 5/18 - We had our temple day in the morning, which is always nice.  We then had lunch and went back to our zone and we also had our Elijah Choir practice on Wednesday afternoon.

Thursday 5/19 - We spent our day working in our zone and that day we also got to see a broadcast of the Family History Devotional where the speakers were Elder and Sister Renlund.

Friday 5/20 - We had another busy day working in our Access Services zone and that morning - me, my companion, and another companionship sang to our zone.

Saturday 5/21 - We worked during the day and that night we had a little get together for the elders that are finishing their missions (my companion is one of them!) and then we went to mission sports.

Sunday 5/22 - We got up and saw the rehearsal and broadcast of Music and the Spoken Word - with special guests GENTRI.  We then had our branch choir practice and then our normal Sunday meetings.  We then had a dinner appointment with 2 senior couples.

Monday 5/23 - Yesterday we got up early so we could make it to the Elijah Choir practice on time.  We then had the Monday morning mission devotional and then worked in our zone.  We had our district meeting that night on the top floor of the JSMB.

Tuesday 5/24 - This morning we did our laundry and went shopping - and my companion had his final interview with our mission president.  And after emails we will go to the transfer conference.

Hard to believe that May is almost over and that soon it will be JUNE!  Hope everyone has a great week! :)

Scenes From the Mission

New Zone

Hello Family and Friends -

Hard to believe that it's p-day again, even though it's been 12 days since I last wrote.  We had our transfers last week and I was completely affected - new companion, new zone, new apartment, new p-day, etc.  It has been an exciting 12 days though.  Here's what has happened to me since my last p-day.

Thursday 4/21 - We worked in our (now my old!) work zone as usual that night.

Friday 4/22 - We spent that day and night working in our work zone.

Saturday 4/23 - We worked during the day - during our lunch hour - our district leader took our district plus 4 other elders to a Scottish store in City Creek which was pretty cool.  That night we WERE gonna have sports, but it was raining really hard and plus as we were about to walk near the stake center, the fire alarm at the stake center was going off (I was SO glad I had my umbrella!).  We ended up having ice cream at another elder's apartment.

Sunday 4/24 - We went to see Music and the Spoken Word in the morning, had choir practice, and then had church - that day was our Branch Conference day where we heard from our branch president and stake president, where the branch choir sang, and where we (all the young elders!) got to hear from Elder C. Scott Grow from the 70.  That evening we took a walk around Temple Square which was fun.

Monday 4/25 - We got up early so we could make it to the mission choir practice on time.  We then had our usual Monday morning devotional, worked in our zones, had district meeting, and then I had to pack since I would be moving apartments the next night.

Tuesday 4/26 - We worked during the day and then we had the transfer conference - and like I said - I was completely affected by the transfer - I got a new companion (his name is Elder Lichtenstein - he's from Oregon, and he's actually completing his mission this transfer - so I already know that I'll have to get a new companion next transfer!), I'm in a new work zone (I'm now in the Access Services zone, which is in the Family History Library - and in that zone we help put away books, help guests find books, we make sure that microfilms and books are in the correct order, etc.).  My p-day also changed from Thursday to Tuesday (which is why I now write on Tuesdays!).  That night I got all moved into my new apartment and that did not take a long time since I was the only elder who was moving into that apartment.

Wednesday 4/27 - We spent the day and night working in the NEW work zone and also had choir practice that afternoon.  So far it's fun being in the Family History Library.  I'm enjoying the elders (and seniors!) I work with.
Thursday 4/28 - We spent another busy day working in our work zones.

Friday 4/29 - We worked in the day and night and that day we also had our apartment inspection and we did pretty well on that overall.

Saturday 4/30 - We worked during the day and then that night - all the young elders got to see a Book of Mormon musical that was put together by a stake in Sandy, Utah - it was performed in an auditorium in the Conference Center. Saturday morning we had a little zone brunch to celebrate the end of the mission for one of our senior elders.  They definitely like to feed us alot!
Sunday 5/1 - We went to see the broadcast of Music and the Spoken Word in the morning, had our branch choir practice, and then had our regular Sunday meetings.  That night we had a fireside where we heard from Robert Jacob (also known as Piper Bob - he plays the bagpipes around Temple Square during General Conference weekends!).

Monday 5/2 - We got up early so we can make it to the mission choir practice on time.  We then had our Monday morning mission devotional, worked in our work zones, and then had district meeting last night.

Tuesday 5/3 - This morning we got our shopping and laundry done.

As you all can see - it's been a busy but exciting past 12 days since I last wrote.  Hope you all have a great week! :)

Hello Family and Friends,

Happy Tuesday!  It's been another pretty good week here in Salt Lake.  Here are the highlights of the week!

Tuesday 5/3 - We went to a research class that night and then helped with our closing duties in our zone.

Wednesday 5/4 - We spent the day and evening working in our zone and we also had our usual Wednesday rehearsal with the Elijah Choir (the name of our mission choir!).

Thursday 5/5 - We worked in our zones and got to have lunch at the Church Office Building (or the COB!) cafeteria since they were having tacos (in honor of Cinco De Mayo!).

Friday 5/6 - We had another hardworking day in our work zone.

Saturday 5/7 - We worked in the zone during the day and then had our sports activity that night.

Sunday 5/8 - We went to see the rehearsal and broadcast of Music and the Spoken Word in the morning.  Later that morning we had our branch choir rehearsal and then immediately had church where the branch choir sang.  After church I got to call home which was a highlight of my Sunday.

Monday 5/9 - Yesterday we got up at 5am so we could be to the Elijah Choir rehearsal on time (6:15am!).  We then had our weekly devotional with the mission, worked in our zone, and then last night we had our zone conference.

Tuesday 5/10 - This morning we did our shopping and then did our laundry.  Now I'm emailing! :)

That was my week in a nutshell.  These weeks just keep flying faster than I can even imagine.  Have a great week! :)
