Pioneer Day and Birthday

Hello Family and Friends,

This past week hasbeen a wonderful week, and a week that I will not soon forget.  Here’s this past week in a nutshell.

Saturday 7/30 –After doing our emails on Saturday, we took a little trip to Maverick (a gasstation that is close to our apartments, across from the West Office Building!)to get some water and stuff.  In theevening, we had our normal sports activities and I got a haircut.

Sunday 7/31 – We gotup in the morning and saw Music and the Spoken Word in the ConferenceCenter.  We also had our branch choirpractice, where we’re currently learning 2 pieces that we’ll sing in church inboth August and September.  We then hadour normal Sunday meetings.  That night,we had a dinner appointment with 5 senior sisters, and all the food was reallygood.

Monday 8/1 – We gotup very early so I could be at the Elijah Choir practice on time.  We then had our normal Monday morningdevotional.  We then worked in our zones, and I had a career counseling appointment (they are now doing those throughoutthe mission, rather than just the final 3 months of an elder’s mission!).  That night, our branch had a dinner withJ-Dawgs, and that was a lot of fun.  Thewhole branch even sang “Happy Birthday” to me, since my birthday was coming upat that time.

Tuesday 8/2 – We hada normal day working in our work zones.
Wednesday 8/3 (mybirthday!) – We worked in our zones as normal, and because it was my birthday,we decided to go to the cafeteria in the Church Office Building (known as the“COB!”), and the food there is actually not super expensive, most of my mealsare usually less than $8.  On Wednesdayafternoon, we had our usual Wednesday afternoon Elijah Choir practice, wherewe’re learning 3 songs for upcoming Monday devotionals and the upcoming Augustsenior mission conference.  At the end ofthe rehearsal, the choir sang Happy Birthday to me, which was really nice ofthem.  Also, a senior sister who lives onmy floor brought brownies over to our apartment, which was also really nice ofher to do.  On Wednesday night, Ireceived the cake and the cookies that were sent to me, and they all tastedreally good.  I also received the birthdaypackage that was sent, and I really appreciated that as well.

Thursday 8/4 – We spent the day and night doing our normal work in ourzones.

Friday 8/5 – We hadanother very busy day working in our zones. I also had my monthly interview with our mission president and his wife, which went really well, as always.

Saturday 8/6 – Wespent the morning doing our shopping, as well as our laundry.  This afternoon we'll go out to eat for my birthday and possibly to the temple.

Thank you all asalways for your wonderful support, especially during my birthday week.  YOU ARE ALL AWESOME!  Hope you all have a great week!  LOVE YOU ALL! J

Hello Family and Friends,

This past week has been another very good and busy one!  The news about transfers will be in this email as well.  Here's the rundown of my week.

Saturday 7/23 - After finishing our emails, we went to see the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Pioneer Day Concert with the Kings Singers, which was AWESOME.  What's even more cool was that since my (now former!) companion and I got to the standby line early enough, we ended up with really good seats at the concert.

Sunday 7/24 - We went to Music and the Spoken Word, which featured songs from the Pioneer Day Concert.  I had to miss branch choir practice, because my companion had an interview with the mission president, but fortunately I was still able to sing with the branch choir, since we got there from the mission office before church.  We then had our regular Sunday meetings.

Monday 7/25 - We got up and saw the Pioneer Day parade, and then went to hike at Ensign Peak, which was alot of fun (and it's also not a super hard hike either!).  We spent a little time on top which was also really cool.  After the hike, we had lunch and then did some sports.  That night we watched a film called "The Quest for a Go-Getter," which is about a man who was on a quest to get a blue vase (interesting fact, our mission president has 3 blue vases in his office!).

Tuesday 7/26 - We worked in our zone during the day, and we had our transfer conference in the afternoon.  For transfers, I moved to a new apartment (which has a balcony, which is nice, since I lived in a basement apartment for 3 months, and basement apartments don't have balconies!), with a new companion, and I have a new day zone and night zone.  My new companion's name is Elder Hellebrand, who's from Southern California.  My new day zone is Church History Collections and my night zone is Research Essentials, which my companion and I are the heads of. I work in the Church History Library during the day (so I see Sis. Rice alot more!), and I'm in the Family History Library at night.  In our day zone, we look at reports that stakes and missions send to Salt Lake.  In our night zone, we are the heads of Research Essentials, so we make sure that the elders that attend are doing appropriate activities, and we also "set the tone" of the class by showing genealogy videos and Mormon messages, etc.

Wednesday 7/27 - We had our monthly temple trip in the morning, which was of course nice.  Then I was able to get introduced to my new day zone, which went really well.  We then had Elijah Choir practice as usual.

Thursday 7/28 - We spent the day and evening as usual working in our work zones.

Friday 7/29 - Yesterday we had another busy and good day working in our zones.

Saturday 7/30 - So far today, we have done our shopping and finished our laundry.

So as you can see, this week has definitely been a good one.  I also really appreciate the birthday wishes that have already been sent, and looking forward to ones that will be sent this coming week.  I hope everyone has a fantastic week!  LOVE YOU ALL! :)
